Coffee service

Role of the coffee servers

  • Time Commitment: 15 minutes prior to worship service and 30 minutes following the service.
  • Duties: Make/set up coffee and snacks. Clean up service area and kitchen.
  • Good Fit: Those who follow easy directions, run dishwashers, and understand the importance of a good cup of hot coffee.

Before the service

  1. Make a large urn of coffee, another of decaf coffee and a third small urn of hot water when you arrive at church 15 minutes before the service. Brew one pot by the stove and the other two on the other counter as the power supply will not support three pots on one outlet. See Coffee Brewing Notes posted on west wall for coffee measurements.
    • Winter or larger crowds: 54-cup regular coffee, 30-cup decaf, tea urn
    • Summer or warmer weather and average groups: 30-cup regular, ½ of 30-cupper of decaf and tea urn.
    • To add a little more of either, use the 10-cup coffee maker.
  2. Using small serving cart set out with creamer, canned milk, stirrers, sugar, teas, and napkins.
  3. Set up cups in kitchen at pass through window.
  4. If serving on the patio, use the two rolling carts and place coffee and tea containers with cups and condiments on top of each and bus bins on lower shelves.

Between services:

  1. Just before serving, remove basket of grounds from coffee urns to stop the perking.
  2. Serve and monitor snacks and condiments.
  3. Load dishwasher as cups come back and start dishwasher before 2nd service EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT FULL. Cups will be needed for 2nd service and the shortest cycle (using “Quick Clean-up” takes 35 minutes. Do not use dryer option.)
  4. Keep all work and serving areas clean.

Before 2nd service:

  1. Check amount of coffee and hot water left from 1st service. Make more if needed using the 10-cup coffee maker for smaller amounts.
  2. Replenish condiments on cart(s).

After 2nd service:

  1. Unload dishwasher and use/store cups. Run dishwasher again with cups used during 2nd service.
  2. Return cart(s) to kitchen. Unload and store supplies.
  3. Leave laundry on counter for laundering.
  4. Add needed supplies to the shopping list on the cabinet top under microwave.
  5. Leave kitchen clean and in good order with dishwasher running.
