Greeter
Role of the greeter
Greeters are key to welcoming guests into our congregational community. They are often a first contact and can offer some basic “what to expect’ information. If you enjoy meeting and talking to people and love to share your enthusiasm for OUUC, please consider being a greeter. It’s a great way to connect with old and new friends while making a significant contribution to OUUC.
- If you are unable to fulfill your commitment, please find a replacement in advance. Trade with another usher or greeter or call a substitute. If you absolutely are unable to find someone, let one of the others on your shift know, so they can ask someone present at that service to help.
- Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the service for which you are scheduled and plan to stay for 15 minutes after the service.
- Wear your own name tag and a “Welcome” stole, which should be in the Usher box.
Before first service
- Unlock both front doors and ‘hook’ the handle in the open position.
- Attach the welcome banner to the stand outside the door.
- Add the name tags and pens and any missing items to the welcome table with supplies from the Greeter Box.
- Stand outside or near the welcome table and watch for newcomers or those looking for direction. Ask that they sign in on the yellow cards and fill out a temporary name tag.
- Assist visiting adults with children to make connections with RE staff, (Sara Lewis).
- Give each guest a Visitor’s Packet.
- Offer a copy of World magazine, or a CD. Tell them about our on-line sermons and availability of CD or cassettes of the service.
- Answer questions before and after service as appropriate and encourage self introduction during the service.
- Offer hearing assistance receivers if needed which are available in the AV booth.
During the service
- Sit with newcomers as opportunities allow.
- Connect with folks during the time of greeting.
After the service
- Follow through by remaining at the table to answer questions or hear comments. Invite visitors to come again.
- Take the signed cards to the Church Administrator. (Note: All guests receive a follow-up call and a letter from the minister.)
- After 1st service be sure there are enough Orders of Service for the second service.
- After 1st service pass on the Welcome Stoles to the 2nd service greeters.
- After 2nd service, replace name tags and pens and stoles neatly in the greeter box and stow under the Welcome Table.
- After 2nd service, please leave some Announcement sheets available in the Commons for later pick-up, save the covers and green sheets and recycle the rest.
