Consistent with the mission statement of our congregation, the OUUC Music Ministry “opens minds, fills hearts and transforms lives.” It is a vibrant and joyful music ministry comprised of a music director and choir who are dedicated to presenting high quality choral repertoire at least two Sundays each month through the church year. In addition, the choir performs a Winter Holiday Concert and a Spring Concert which is often wonderfully enhanced by the addition of guest musicians from within the congregation as well as the external community. In December, 2013 the choir and the 15 piece guest orchestra performed to an overflowing house.

OUUC is fortunate to have a finely tuned, 6 foot, Yamaha G3 grand piano and outstanding acoustics in the sanctuary. The repertoire of the choir includes a wide range of music from serious classical music to contemporary choral works. Among the many classical selections the choir has performed are international works including: the “Faure Requiem,” Vaughn Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “Rutter’s Requiem” and “The Magnificat.”

The choir rehearses each Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  All are welcome.  We do not hold auditions, and while the ability to read music is helpful, it is not required.  For more information contact Anita McIntosh.

In addition to the choir, the music director offers a voice class on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30. There is an easy registration which you can complete when you arrive and a $10 fee twice a year to defray the copying costs. We work on posture, breathing and ear training. We sing a variety of songs ranging from high to low, ballad to scat. We sing together and the brave are encouraged to sing solos and duets. It’s a chance to sing your heart out. Come and join the fun. In the words of our music director, “Music will change your brain!” All levels of talent are welcome. For more information, contact Bobbe Murray.
